When to use a wide collection banner instead of only thumbnails

Some themes show a hero strip above collection products. A 2048 x 1024 image gives enough width for retina desktops while staying a predictable 2:1 shape for theme CSS.

If your theme does not use a collection banner, you can still export here for seasonal campaigns and swap assets when your developer enables the block.

Tips before you upload

  • Keep copy out of the far edges. Full-width banners often crop on tablets.
  • WebP keeps the hero lighter than a huge JPEG. Re-run compression if Lighthouse flags collection pages.
  • This preset outputs a fixed 2048 x 1024 canvas. Plan composition before you upload.
  • Compare with the 3:1 store hero banner preset if you are unsure which header slot you are filling.
